ASSEMBLAGE is a reflection of the long-term effects of our decisions and how those decisions affect the larger environment around us. We work through our processes while considering aesthetics and form to go beyond the components of a traditional design education. In each piece, the designer’s presence is balanced with the message of the project, whether prompted in studio or self defined.
The identity, referencing an exploded diagram, features a schematic of our design education and process. It is inspired by how we assemble our ideas — what has influenced them and the tools we utilize to generate them.
The branding team, which consisted of 12 designers, was tasked with creating the identity as well as all the deliverables for the show, which consisted of — promotional posters, banners, social media graphics, way finding systems, labels, maps and pamphlets.
Our class of 42 divided into different teams (branding, curation, build, budgeting), the branding team held meetings twice a week. We initially broke into smaller teams to ideate. My team of four presented the concept, ASSEMBLAGE as well as the beginning schematic diagrams of the design process that worked as the starting point for the identity.
